Our Story
Since 1928, Berryhill’s tamales have been a Houston tradition. Berryhill begins with Walter Berryhill, aka the “Tamale Man”, who made and sold his tamales on street corners in Tulsa Oklahoma. The “Tamale Man” then migrated and sold his tamales in Oklahoma City, to Seminole, to Dallas, and then staked his roots in Houston, Texas.  In the 1920’s to 1960’s, Berryhill, along with his brothers Beuford and Dude, sold his tamales out of steam push carts at numerous locations in Houston.

The famous recipe and the little tamale cart sat in a warehouse until 1993, when the first Berryhill restaurant was born: a little taqueria, lovingly named Berryhill Hot Tamales. Nearly 20 years later, Berryhill Baja Grill is recognized as the Best Mexican Restaurant in Houston by AOL City Guide. Our Original fish tacos, award winning margaritas, and other signature items with a baja flare make for good times with family and friends with Seriously Fresh food.
